Servicefitters Training Center (Metal Trades)

In partnership with Labor and Management, The HVAC/R Service Technicians Training Center (STTC) is dedicated to continuously improving the quality and value of the HVAC/R service technician.    Training Divisions:
  Building Trades
   Servicefitters (Metal Trades)

By providing the right combination of skills, innovative experience based training, communication, supervision and state-of-the-art technical support, STTC refines and expands the service fitters technical capability to diagnose, repair, retrofit, install and service. STTC strives to develop knowledgeable and loyal service technicians who are conscientious, career minded and devoted to the highest level of quality service and total customer satisfaction.

The Service Fitters Educational Fund is maintained pursuant to a collective bargaining agreement between the Metal Trades Branch of Local Union 638 and the Service Contractors Division of the Mechanical Contractors Association of New York.

As determined by the Educational Fund, the Service Technician Training Program consists of three years of trade related classroom and laboratory training totaling a minimum of 208 hours per year. It is designed to insure that the technician learns the basic skills of the HVACR trade, including the use and care of tools and other equipment, the ability to install and service heating, ventilating, refrigeration and air conditioning systems, and other work that is part of the Service Fitting Industry.

Service Technician classes are formed in September and January of each year. In order to qualify for technician training the applicant must take an aptitude test administered by the HVACR Service Technician Training Center and be interviewed and approved by an employer trustee and union trustee committee or a committee designated by the trustees to interview candidates for enrollment.

The Service Technicians Training Center also conducts an Advanced Training Program that provides service technicians a continuing opportunity to develop and expand their ability to provide superior quality service.

The Educational Fund is operated and controlled by a joint Board of Trustees, consisting of representatives from the Metal Trades Branch of Local Union 638 and the Mechanical Contractors Association of New York.
