Building Trades Training Center

The following is a list of upgrade training classes available to Building Trades members.

 

   Training Divisions:
  Building Trades
   Servicefitters (Metal Trades)

Steamfitters’ Education Fund
Journeymen Upgrade Training Program

Through a partnership between Labor and Management, The Steamfitters’ Industry Training Center is open Monday thru Thursday for Journey worker training courses and certifications.

Having access to industry leaders that are willing to train others, the Training Center is able to provide Local 638 with the perfect arena capable of producing the highest quality craftsperson possible. This combination of skill and experience keeps the training center devoted to producing the most competent mechanics.

Listed below is a list of the courses that are presently offered.  As always, if there is a need or a desire for different courses of study please contact the director of the training center.

All classes start at 3:30 pm at the Training Center.

  • Automatic Sprinkler Systems- One night a week for 16 weeks
  • Computer Aided Drafting (CAD)-One night a week for 16 weeks. Must be computer literate and have taken Drafting and Blueprint Reading or have field experience
  • Computer Classes -Beginner and Advanced- One night a week for 4-6 weeks for each course
  • Drafting and Blueprint Reading- One night a week for 20 weeks
  • Hot Water Heating Systems- One night a week for 20 weeks
  • Industrial Rigging Certification- One night a week for 20 weeks. Must have field experience and be able to take the Written Certification Exam on a computer
  • OSHA Safety Training and Certification- Two Saturdays for 6 hours a day. A test will be given that will allow successful candidates to receive an OSHA-10 hour card
  • Refrigeration – Introduction-One night a week for 22 weeks
  • CFC Preparation & Test-One night a week for three weeks
  • Scaffolding Certification-Four hour course that will allow a Steamfitter to work on a scaffold 40 feet or higher
  • Soldering and Brazing-One night a week for 6-8 weeks
  • Steam Technology-One night a week for 20 weeks
  • Welding Classes –Stick, TIG, and Orbital
  • Welding - Pipe Certification Test
  • Welding- NYC Structural Steel Test
